Tamil Nadu, lying on the South part of Indian peninsula and bounded by Eastern Ghats, Nilgiri, Anamalai Hills, Kerala on the West, Bay of Bengal in the East, Palk Strait in the South East and Indian Ocean in the South bordered by territory of Pondicherry, Kerala, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh. Tamil Nadu is mostly urbanized and second largest state economy of India and the home of Tamil people since 500 BC, houses many national resources and hindu temples, hill stations and beach resorts, eight UNESCO World Heritage Sites and other multi religious pilgrimage sites.

Tamil Nadu is where the Indian ocean hit Tsunami along the coast line of India and experiences cyclones too. Tamil Nadu 2000 species of wild life which includes sambar, deer, nilgiri langurs, sloth bear, tigers, leopards, elephants and wild dogs etc.

There are many species of plants. Tamil Nadu has National and State parks which are protected like Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve, Western Ghatts and Nilgiri. The five declared National Parks are located in Gulf of Mannar Mukurithi, Mudumalai, Anamalai and Gulf of Mannar. The State also has tiger reserves including Sathyamangalam Tiger Reserve having largest elephant population in India apart from other wild life sanctuaries. Tamil Nadu receives monsoon rains and the climate is sub-humid to semi-arid. Tamil Nadu known for its rich traditions which continues to flourish today like music, dance and literature namely Bharatanatyam, Tamil Architecture, Tanjore Paintings and which continues to be practiced here. A four day harvest festival Pongal is one of the most widely celebrated festival also known as Makar Sankranti elsewhere in India.

The other festivals celebrated are Deepawali, Dusshera, Eidul Fitr, Easter and Eidul Zuha. The famous carnatic music is the classical music form of this region. Chennai, the capital city of Tamil Nadu host large cultural events which involves performances by many artists all over the city during December-January. Fold dances are performed on almost every family occasions. Houses can be seen beautifully coloured with multi colours at the door step to invite positivity properly known as Rangoli. Tamil Nadu is the largest site for medical tourism in India. The target cities includes Chennai, Madurai, Coimbatore and Vellore. Beache stretch from Mahabalipuram to Chennai and has many beaches, resort and theme parks. Among which Chennai beach is one of the longest beach in the World and Kanyakumari at the Southern most tip of India, famous for beautiful sunrise. The State has hill stations like Ooty, Kodaikanal, Coonoor, etc. The thick forest are inhabited by Nilgiri Hills, Kolli Hills, Palani Hills and house of many National Parks, Wild Life Sanctuaries, Reserve Forest and Crocodile Farms includes Anaimalai Wild Life Sanctuary, Gulf of Mannar Biosphere Reserve, Madumalai National Park ,etc. are important in eco tourism.

Water Sports is also an attraction in Tamil Nadu especially in Chennai and Puducherry like wind surfing, scuba diving, jet skiing and parasailing. The heritage site and the temples of Tamil Nadu which are of tourist importance are Meenakshi Temple, Gopalaswamy Temple, Rajarajeswaram Temple, Temples of Lord Vinayagar, Temples of Lord Murugan, Temples of Lord Shiva, Temples of Lord Vishnu all are studded with complex architecture, rich inscriptions, variety of sculptures which captures the historically owned 2000 years old essence of culture and heritage of Tamil land which are ancient, still standing and ever inviting.
